By acknowledging and addressing male sexual health issues, we can promote a more inclusive and supportive environment for men. It is crucial to break the stigma surrounding these topics and encourage men to seek help and treatment without feeling ashamed or embarrassed. Additionally, raising awareness about the available resources and treatments can empower individuals to take control of their sexual health and improve their overall well-being.

Most prevalent sexual health disorders among males are as follows:

  1. The inability to get or keep an erection is known as erectile dysfunction (ED).
  2. Ejaculating before or soon after sexual penetration is known as precocious ejaculation (PE).
  3. Insufficient desire to engage in sexual activities is low libido.
  4. Peyronie’s disease is a medical illness in which scar tissue forms inside the penis, making it curved or bent as the patient tries to get an erection.
  5. Inflammation of the prostate gland, often known as prostatitis, is a common cause of impotence in men.
  6. Lack of testosterone, or hypogonadism, is characterised by low levels of the hormone testosterone and is associated with a variety of negative health outcomes.

It’s crucial to remember that sexual health issues can stem from a variety of different places, including the body and the mind.  It’s advised that anyone with sexual health issues get competent medical advice and treatment.

Erectile Dysfunction (ED)

When a man has erectile dysfunction (ED), he struggles to get or keep an erection long enough to engage in sexual activity. Its root causes can be either physiological or psychological, or both. Disorders of the circulatory system, diabetes, surgical removal of the prostate, and certain drugs all rank among the most prevalent causes of ED. Oral medicines, penile injections, and penile implants are all viable treatments for treating erectile dysfunction. Physical activity, weight loss, and stress management are all beneficial in treating erectile dysfunction. For accurate diagnosis and treatment, it’s crucial to consult a medical expert.

Premature Ejaculation (PE)

Premature ejaculation (PE) occurs when a man ejaculates earlier than he or his partner would want during sexual activity. Twenty percent to thirty percent of males experience this sexual dysfunction. Physical factors like nerve injury or hormone imbalances, as well as mental factors like anxiety or despair, might contribute to the development of PE. Behavioral methods, pharmaceuticals, and psychotherapy are all viable treatment choices. Seek medical advice for an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.

Lack of Sexual Desire

Many factors contribute to low libido or a lack of sexual desire. Lifestyle variables including alcohol and drug use, lack of exercise, and poor sleep can all play a role, as can physical ones like hormone imbalances, specific medications, and chronic health disorders. It is crucial to consult a healthcare physician if you are having low libido so that the underlying cause can be identified and treated. This may involve medical treatment, medication, or behavioural adjustments.

Peyronie's Disease

Fibrous tissue (plaques) grow in the penile shaft of men with Peyronie’s disease, causing the penis to curve or bend when erected. Pain, inability to get or keep an erection, and a penile deformity are all possible symptoms. Peyronie’s disease is believed to be caused by either penis damage or an inherited collagen problem, while the specific origin is unknown. Medications, surgical procedures, and the use of a vacuum erection device are all viable choices for treatment. The problem may become better on its own without therapy in certain circumstances. If you experience signs of Peyronie’s disease, you should see a doctor.

Prostatitis

The prostate gland can become inflamed, a condition known as prostatitis. In addition to erectile dysfunction, other symptoms include pelvic pain or discomfort and problems urinating. Antibiotics or other treatments are usually used to treat this disease, which may be brought on by a bacterial infection or another underlying medical issue. Stress reduction and regular exercise are only two examples of the kinds of lifestyle adjustments that may be suggested.

Testosterone Deficiency

Low amounts of the hormone testosterone or testosterone deficiency is also known as hypogonadism. Low levels of testosterone can cause a variety of unpleasant side effects, including low libido, erectile dysfunction, a loss of muscle mass and bone density, extreme fatigue, and even depression. Aging, injury or disease of the testes, and even some drugs can lead to a testosterone deficit in men. Treatment for hypogonadism, or low testosterone, often involves hormone replacement treatment (TRT).  Gels, needles, patches, or pellets can all be used to deliver the medication. TRT has a high rate of success and low risk of side effects when administered by a medical professional following a complete evaluation of symptoms and testosterone levels. Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), clomiphene, and selective oestrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) are further choices. TRT should never be used for cosmetic purposes like improving one’s sports performance or extending one’s youthfulness.

Several pharmaceutical options exist for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED).  Among these are:

  1. Inhibitors of Phosphodiesterase Type 5 (PDE5): Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra are just a few examples of medications that increase penis blood flow.
  2. You can inject Alprostadil directly into the penile scrotum or put a pellet into your urethra to take this medication.
  3. Treatment for low testosterone levels. Sexual health can benefit from testosterone replacement therapy.
  4. Penile implants are devices that can be used to get an erection once they have been surgically inserted into the penis.

You should talk to a doctor about what treatments would work best for you.
